Since 1823, Trinity College has prepared students to be bold, independent thinkers who lead transformative lives. With the message from President Joanne Berger-Sweeney who announced on April 15 that she will retire from Trinity College at the end of the 2024–25 academic year—after a remarkable 11-year presidency—we turn our focus to ensuring that the College continues to thrive during its third century.

The Board of Trustees now embarks on its most important responsibility: finding the 23rd president of Trinity College. The board has tasked a search committee to work in partnership with the executive search firm Spencer Stuart and to manage a thoughtful process of listening to our community to discern the characteristics and desired qualities of the next president.

Thank you to those who shared your thoughts about the strategic future of the College and the ideal profile of the next president by submitting the survey. We look forward to incorporating your responses into this search.

Overview of What to Expect

  • Phase One:  Gather community input to create and refine the leadership profile.
  • Phase Two:  Recruit and interview the best qualified candidates. Celebrate the legacy of President Joanne Berger-Sweeney in the fall.
  • Phase Three:  Select, announce, and introduce a new president to the community in early 2025.

Community members may ask questions or nominate qualified candidates by emailing the search firm at [email protected].

The search committee has scheduled a number of opportunities throughout April and May to collect feedback from across constituencies.
